Shea Butter Recipes: Lip Care

Shea butter absorbs quickly, leaving lips feeling soothed and moisturized, rather than sticky or waxy. Shea butter-based lip balms are effective in protecting your lips from wind and sun damage, while fighting the signs of aging. Experiment with different essential oils to discover your perfect flavor.

Basic Lip Balmlip balm 72

All-natural and easy to make, this lip balm will keep your lips moisturized throughout the year. For scented lip balm, simply add 8-12 drops of your favorite essential oil.

This recipe makes 8 lip balms.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp Beeswax
  • 2 tbsp Shea Butter
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the lip balm tubes by removing their lids and securing them together with a rubber band
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave all the ingredients in 30-second increments at 50% power, stirring well after each interval
  3. Transfer the mixture to a measuring cup
  4. Quickly distribute the mixture among the lip balm tubes
  5. Refrigerate the lip balm and allow it to set before capping the tubes

Honey Lavender Lip Balm

This natural lip balm is the perfect way to heal and nourish dry, chapped lips. The recipe fills 12 lip balm tubes, making it perfect for gifts or party favors.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tbsp Shea Butter
  • ½ tsp Raw Honey
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Almond Oil
  • 2 tbsp Beeswax, grated
  • 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the lip balm tubes by removing their lids and securing them together with a rubber band
  2. In a double boiler, melt the coconut oil, shea butter, raw honey and beeswax, stirring constantly
  3. Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the sweet almond oil and essential oils
  4. Quickly distribute the mixture among the lip balm tubes
  5. Refrigerate the lip balm and allow it to set before capping the tubes

Ultra-Moisturizing Lip Balm

Protect your lips from winter’s dryness with this highly-absorbent lip balm. For scented lip balm, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. This recipe makes enough to fill one lip balm jar.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Castor Oil
  • 1 tsp Raw Honey
  • 4 Beeswax granules
  • 1 tsp Shea Butter

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a double boiler and melt over low heat, stirring constantly
  2. Pour the lip balm mixture into a lip balm jar
  3. Allow the lip balm to cool in the refrigerator before putting the lid on the jar
